Launch of Sovereign Industrial Capabilities Priorities Grants Program

Earlier today the Hon. Steven Ciobo MP, Minister for Defence Industry, launched the Sovereign Industrial Capability Priorities Grants program in Sydney.

The grant, an initiative of the 2018 Defence Industrial Capability Plan, is an up to $17 million per year program to provide support to eligible Australian

small to medium-sized enterprises with less than 200 employees that contribute to one or more of the Sovereign Industrial Capability Priorities. The intended outcome of the program is to grow a robust and resilient Australian SME industrial base capable of providing a significant contribution to the Priorities.

Eligible activities for a grant may include:

  • Buying, constructing, installing or commissioning of capital equipment including specialist software to enhance cyber security:
    • Design, engineering and commissioning activities directly related to the project.
    • Workforce training and accreditation directly related to the project.

Grants will range between $50,000 to $1 million subject of the requirements of the proposed project and it will require matching funding. Grants funding will be capped at $3 million over a three-year period per recipient and will be funded by Defence and administer by the Business Grants Hub, through the Centre for Defence Industry Capability.
