The Australian Government announced the International Space Investment (ISI) initiative in the 2018-19 Budget as a part of the Australian Technology and Science Growth Plan - a measure to grow the Australian space industry. Under this measure, the Government has committed to providing $15 million over three years (starting from late 2019) to establish the ISI initiative, which will support strategic international space projects that generate employment and business opportunities for Australians.

The recent VDA-Land Systems briefing was a highly informative and engaging session, with MAJGEN Andrew Bottrell, Head of Land Systems (CASG), providing an update on the Land Systems Division and opportunities for industry.

Navy Industry Academia Conference

From the 29th to the 30th of May, The Naval Shipbuilding College will be hosting the Navy Industry Academia Training Conference at Deakin University Waterfront Campus Geelong, Victoria.

MSPO is the most important defence show in Poland and is ranked third for European tradeshows (behind DSEI and Eurosatory). The event is mainly focused on the land and air domains. MSPO 2017 saw 625 exhibitors and 34,000 attendees from over 30 countries.

On 16 May ADA(Vic) was happy to offer Members an opportunity to discuss the lead-up to the recently held election, and the various implications to the Commonwealth’s Defence Export Agenda and the Defence Industry SME community, with a briefing provided by Zackary McLennan of Lunik Communications. 
Lunik are strategic partners of the ADA national partnership and we were lucky to have them provide us with a breakdown of campaign promises, party intentions and a bit of expectation management depending upon how the votes tallied.

G'day USA 2019

On 9 May 2019, ADA(Vic) CEO Claire Willette was invited by the Commonwealth to speak on behalf of the national ADA partnership at the 2019 G'Day USA Dialogue on Defence. Accompanied by Defence officials from both USA and Australia, Claire's panel, "Modernising with Allies - Budget Pressure and Opportunities for Ally Innovation" focused on opportunities and challenges for companies in the US to form partnerships with Australian SMEs, and specifically how budget constraints can act as a positive forcing function for commercial partnerships. Claire drove home the point that while, from a policy and governance perspective the conditions in the Australian Defence Industry

Rheinmetall Industry Engagement Event

ADA Vic and VDA Land Systems were happy to host the first of Rheinmetall’s renewed industry engagement sessions, during which over 100 Victorian SMEs heard from Rheinmetall Australia’s Managing Director, Gary Stewart, about the status of Rheinmetall’s domestic and international programs, and the associated timelines for programs such as Land 121 Phase3 and Phase 5; Land 400 Phase 2; and Land 400 Phase 3.  And with true efficiency, the Rheinmetall team also facilitated over 27 B2B engagements with Victorian SMEs. 

Applications are still open to join the Space Technologies Trade Mission to the United States of America and explore opportunities at the Humans to Mars Summit (Washington DC), International Space Trade Summit (Hartford, Connecticut) and business meetings in Huntsville, Alabama.

This mission will explore a broad range of opportunities in the international space sector. Industry will find it easier to do business with Defence after the announcement of major reforms to the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP)

The reforms, announced by Minister for Defence Industry Linda Reynolds, will "maximise the benefits to Australian businesses from the unprecedented investment in defence industry by the Australian government while providing better security outcomes for Australia".
