ADA Vic and VDA Land Systems were happy to host the first of Rheinmetall’s renewed industry engagement sessions, during which over 100 Victorian SMEs heard from Rheinmetall Australia’s Managing Director, Gary Stewart, about the status of Rheinmetall’s domestic and international programs, and the associated timelines for programs such as Land 121 Phase3 and Phase 5; Land 400 Phase 2; and Land 400 Phase 3. And with true efficiency, the Rheinmetall team also facilitated over 27 B2B engagements with Victorian SMEs.
Applications are still open to join the Space Technologies Trade Mission to the United States of America and explore opportunities at the Humans to Mars Summit (Washington DC), International Space Trade Summit (Hartford, Connecticut) and business meetings in Huntsville, Alabama.

This mission will explore a broad range of opportunities in the international space sector. The Victorian Government will be facilitating business meetings and conference attendance for Victorian organisations at the Humans to Mars Summit in Washington DC and the International Space Trade Summit in Connecticut. Additionally, there will be a tailored business to business meetings in Huntsville, Alabama.

Industry will find it easier to do business with Defence after the announcement of major reforms to the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP)
The reforms, announced by Minister for Defence Industry Linda Reynolds, will "maximise the benefits to Australian businesses from the unprecedented investment in defence industry by the Australian government while providing better security outcomes for Australia".
On April 2nd, the Australian Government unveiled The Advancing Space: Australian Civil Space Strategy 2019-28, which sets out a 10-year path to guide the growth of the Australian space sector.
The Strategy is built on four strategic pillars:

In the past year, the Victorian Government has established two significant initiatives aimed at ensuring Victorian business and employees benefit from the government’s record investment: the Local Jobs First Policy and the Social Procurement Framework.
Australian Defence Alliance member, SYPAQ has had their Corvo X system selected for further development and capability demonstration for the first half of 2019 after having successfully proving the concept to the Australian Army.
This exciting development was announced by Major General Kathryn Toohey, Head of Land Capability for Army, at Avalon International Airshow on 26th February 2019. SYPAQ was one of three industry and research organisations to be awarded a concept exploration contract through Defence Innovation Hub Special Notice in April 2018,in response to Army's requirements for its future man-portable Small Unmanned Aerial System (SUAS) capability.
Strategic Connections Group joins the Australian Valuechain Partnership
The Australian Defence Alliance would like to congratulate Strategic Connections Group, Anywise Consulting and Valuechain UK on their signing of their Memorandum of Understand (MoU) which promises to build capacity and extend to additional markets. This effort was formalised on Wednesday with the signing of the MoU at the Victorian Government Pavilion at Avalon.

ADA(Vic) is very pleased to announce its' partnership with the Latrobe City Council, whereby 21 regional business will be joining the ADA(Vic) network to highlight and promote the deeply experienced capabilities resident throughout the region. The pilot kicked-off on 21 January, with a three day-day visit to the Valley comprised of a defence industry overview briefing; individual site visits to all participants; the development of quad charts for participation at the Avalon Air Show (Latrobe City Council and regional business will be represented at the Victorian Government stand); and the beginnings of strategic guidance regarding industry contacts and programmatic relevancy for capability, globally.
ADA(Vic) is proud to enter into this long-term, sustainable relationship with the pilot's participants, and we look forward to ensuring that the expertise and excellence they have brought into the resources, energy, manufacturing, biotechnology, cyber, and transportation sectors (to name just a few) continues to be built upon and diversified across defence industry in Victoria; nationally through the ADA partnership; and internationally through global supply chains. As we enter into the new year, ADA(Vic), along with our partners from DTC and the Henderson Alliance, will be meeting with Ministers across both parties, with an interest in the Defence Industry portfolio. The intent of these meetings is to keep the highest levels of Government informed of ADA's national activities, the work being carried-out at local levels, and to ensure they are aware of the issues facing Australia's SME's in the dual-use and defence sectors.
On 14 February 2019, ADA(Vic), on behalf of the national ADA partnership, will participate in the Commonwealth Government and Department of Defence's 3rd Annual Defence Export Forum. This is a one-say meeting exploring the Defence Export Strategy, the policies and programs put in place to support the Strategy, and an evaluation of the implementation and progress of the strategy.
The Victorian Government has generously offered ADA(Vic) 50 tickets (Tues-Fri day passes) for members to attend the Avalon Airshow, 25 February - 1 March 2019.
Unlike years past, these are eTickets and individuals will need to register online with a code which will be provided once names are registered against the tickets.

The Global Discovery Exchange initiative aims to increase the adoption of new or improved technology and processes by Victorian manufacturers by supporting visits to cutting edge manufacturing businesses across the globe and assisting them to benchmark against global leading practice and experience new technologies from leading global locations.
