The Australian Government announced the International Space Investment (ISI) initiative in the 2018-19 Budget as a part of the Australian Technology and Science Growth Plan - a measure to grow the Australian space industry. Under this measure, the Government has committed to providing $15 million over three years (starting from late 2019) to establish the ISI initiative, which will support strategic international space projects that generate employment and business opportunities for Australians.
On April 2nd, the Australian Government unveiled The Advancing Space: Australian Civil Space Strategy 2019-28, which sets out a 10-year path to guide the growth of the Australian space sector.
The Strategy is built on four strategic pillars:
- International - open the door internationally
- National - develop national capability in areas of competitive advantage
- Responsible - ensure safety and national interest are addressed
- Inspire – build a future workforce
